Our History
Grass Boots was established in September 2009, when Stuart Diamond realized that there was no community-based soccer team in the City Bowl that was registered with the district. He negotiated with the City of Cape Town to lease the Yeoville Road field and this has been the home of Grass Boots ever since. Stuart stood with his heart in his throat at the first practice session, and when only four players came down, he wondered if this was something that the community actually needed. His answer came hard and strong over the following weeks and 12 months later, he could count nearly a hundred members. The number has grown exponentially into 2011, boasting teams from U7 to U17.
At the beginning of 2011 the City Council undertook to relay the turf and the grounds now boast a fine, even playing field, which not only benefits the players directly but helps improves the aesthetics of the area for residents. The club is constantly looking to improve the facilities and the involvement of passionate parents in all areas of expertise means that the only limits to realizing hte clubs potential are the financial. |
